Kansas Jayhawks Football: Top Sixteen All-Time in Rushing Yards
By Joel Wagler
Kansas Jayhawks All-Time Rushing Yards Leaders Number Eight: David Winbush
The Jayhawks weren’t very good during the career of David Winbush, but it certainly wasn’t the worst period in Kansas Jayhawks’ football history. His teams never won less than four games but never won more than five.
Winbush had four very solid seasons for the Crimson and Blue, yet never topped the 1,000-yard mark.
- Rushing Yards – 2,608
- Carries – 556
- Rushing Touchdowns – 22
- Yards per Cary – 4.7
- Total Yards from Scrimmage – 3,113
- Total Touchdowns – 24
Strangely, he peaked during his sophomore season, gaining 974 yards on the ground in 209 carries, with nine touchdowns. The best average of his career came as a freshman when he averaged 5.5 yards a carry on just 61 attempts.
During his career, he also produced 505 receiving yards and averaged 10.5 yards a reception.
Winbush had an unspectacular career for the Jayhawks, but he was solid and consistent throughout his time at Kansas. 2,600 yards is a nice four-year total, and he finished ahead of some pretty talented backs.
