By Joel Wagler
Kansas Jayhawks All-Time Rushing Yards Leaders Number 12: Kerwin Bell
Kerwin Bell burst onto the scene at Kansas in a big way. He amassed 1,114 rushing yards as a freshman and looked poised to become another great running back for the Jayhawks.
Unfortunately, injuries and eligibility issues soon derailed his promising career.
On the strength of that terrific rookie campaign in 1980, Bell has a solid place in these rankings.
- Rushing Yards – 1,970
- Carries – 450
- Rushing Touchdowns – 14
- Yards per Carry – 4.4
- Total Yards from Scrimmage – 2,201
- Total Touchdowns – 16
Bell only put up 856 rushing yards after that promising freshman season, 498 of which came as a senior. Still, in 1980, he ranked second in the Big 8 Conference in rushing attempts 9228), and third in rushing yards.
He is certainly one of the players that you have to wonder if he ever reached his full potential. His injuries and other issues definitely took their toll on his career.
Still, a fantastic first season at Kansas catapulted Kerwin Bell into the top 15 all-time rushers at Kansas.
