Kansas Jayhawks Football: Top Sixteen All-Time in Rushing Yards
By Joel Wagler
Kansas Jayhawks All-Time Rushing Yards Leaders Number 13: Norris Banks
What to know why the Jayhawks football squad was able to win 13 games in two seasons when they averaged four pass attempts a game? Not only was Nolan Cromwell running the ball, but so was Norris Banks. In tandem with Cromwell and another running back higher on the list, the Jayhawks were a formidable wishbone offense.
Banks never had a season as impressive as Cromwell’s 1975 campaign, but he did have three solid years for the Jayhawks.
- Rushing Yards – 1,926
- Carries – 438
- Rushing Touchdowns – 4
- Yards per Carry – 4.4
- Total Yards from Scrimmage – 1,971
- Total Touchdowns – 5
His best season came in 1975 when he wracked up 712 yards, with two touchdowns and an impressive 5.1 average.
He also threw a touchdown pass in 1977, good for 80 yards.
Norris may not have turned his time at Kansas into a lucrative NFL career as his teammate, but he had a fine college career and ranks a solid 13th all-time on the Kansas rushing list.
