The Kansas City Royals are squaring off against the Houston Astros in the ALDS, and the series is currently tied at one win a piece. Who helped get the Royals to this point?

The Kansas City Royals were a force to be reckoned with all season long, but who was the most valuable player on the team during the regular season? There are several players worth choosing, but only one can take home the coveted prize, which in this case is simply pride since I don’t have money to buy a gift for the winner.

Many might say, “There’s not just one MVP, Leigh! The whole team’s the MVP!” and that is definitely true. This team wouldn’t be where they are without the help of each other. When one guy was down, another guy stepped up and picked said guy up. That’s what teams do for each other.

In this case though, only one player can win. Let’s take a look at some of the players who most deserve to be named MVP of the Kansas City Royals in 2015.

7. 13-9 and 3.55 ERA in 200.1 innings pitched. Starting Pitcher. Kansas City Royals. Edinson Volquez. 36. player

  • Complete Games: 1
  • Innings Pitched: 200.1
  • Earned Runs: 79
  • Home Runs: 16
  • Walks: 72
  • Strikeouts: 155
  • WHIP: 1.308

Fans were FREAKING out over losing James Shields during the off season, and when Dayton Moore (who could easily win an MVP award for general managers this season) signed former Pittsburgh Pirate Edinson Volquez, people weren’t thrilled.

Volquez proved all of those haters wrong though. He ended up being the most reliable pitcher in the rotation for the majority of the season and quickly became a fan favorite.

Volquez started looking a bit shaky near the end of the season, which is why he’s been bumped to the starter of Game 3. Let it be known though that there was a time where if the Royals had to go to a one-game Wildcard situation, he’d have been the guy on the mound for the boys in blue.

Edinson Volquez was a great signing by Dayton Moore this off season and fans are stoked to have him back for another year in Kansas City for 2016.
