Outfielders
The outfield could be where things get tricky. The biggest question will be who gets the nod between Paulo Orlando and recently acquired Jonny Gomes? The Royals went and got Gomes on August 31st from the Atlanta Braves, but Orlando has been clutch this season.
Obviously we know Alex Gordon will be the starter in left field and that Lorenzo Cain will get the nod in center. Alex Rios wasn’t playing great, but has been improving in the past month. He’ll likely be the starter in right field with Jarrod Dyson and my guess would be Orlando as reserves.
I would pick Orlando over Gomes because he’s been with the team longer and has earned his spot on the roster. Orlando has had some big moments with the Royals this season and has had game winning hits in a few of them. Orlando also possess wickedly fast speed and we all know about “That’s what speed do” and what it did for the Royals last season.
Gomes hasn’t looked all that impressive in his short time with the Royals, but the case for him to make it is that he has postseason experience. He can still bring that postseason enthusiasm while not being on the roster though.
Terrance Gore is also an outfielder that will make the roster, but not for his offense or defensive skills (man, that’s weird to write). Gore will be on the roster only to pinch run. The kid has amazing speed and adds a scary aspect to the Kansas City Royals’ roster. When Gore comes into a game, opposing pitchers get worrisome when on the mound because they know Gore can run.
