Starting Pitchers

Most teams sport a four-man rotation for the playoffs, and it’s extremely likely that the Kansas City Royals will follow this formula.

Last season, the rotation was James Shields, Yordano Ventura, Jason Vargas, and Jeremy Guthrie. One of those guys isn’t on the team anymore, another is injured, and the other one sucks so the rotation will be basically brand new this season.

  • So, who gets the nod to start in the rotation? Here are my predictions:

This seems like the most likely roster heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Danny Duffy was demoted to the bullpen, and Guthrie proved he is not starter material anymore. Plus, Medlen hasn’t looked bad as a starter during his brief few months with the boys in blue.

Cueto looked better in his most recent outing and was acquired by the Royals to be the number one starter in the rotation. Ventura was nails in the postseason last year so hopefully he repeats that success. Volquez has looked shaky lately, but has had a good season.

Not a lot of debating when it comes to the rotation. These four have looked the best and will likely be the starters for the playoffs.
