Negative #5: Fumbles
The KC Chiefs broke about every football commandment Thursday, and they still had every chance to win the game.
They gave the ball away five times. They committed nine penalties. They didn’t convert a single 3rd-down. They scored 10 points in four trips to the Red Zone.
Charles fumbled only 14 times in 750 attempts in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 regular seasons combined, or roughly once every 54 carries.
Running back Jamaal Charles fumbled twice. Once on Denver’s three-yard line, once with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter. Thomas fumbled on a punt return, and the Chiefs lost all three of them.
You hate to blame Charles, he’s the best offensive player on your team and without him you probably have no shot at a win, but he had a rough night.
Not surprisingly he owned it, according to ESPN‘s Adam Teicher:
"“It’s one of the hardest feelings right now that I’ve felt in a long time,” Charles said. “I caused us the loss today. I tried to put the team on my back, and I ended up losing the game. It’s all on me tonight.”"

He’ll be better from here on out, but it was just one of those nights for Jamaal. One of the strangest nights in his football career, for sure.
