KC Chiefs: Areas To Improve On After Week Two

Play calling
Sigh.
I don’t even really know what happened at the end of both halves honestly. When the Chiefs had the ball deep in their own territory near the end of the second quarter, Alex Smith threw a pass, and it was picked off.
This led to the Broncos being able to capitalize and tie things up at half time.
The Broncos had just tied things up, and if the Chiefs would have just taken a knee, the game would have been sent into overtime.
Before Denver had tied it up, I was still confident that Kansas City would win this game. Once it was tied at half time and I saw how poorly the Chiefs offense was playing, however, I was no longer feeling that same confidence.
The second questionable play calling decision and one that will be remembered for a long time by EVERYONE was the decision to run the ball in the last thirty seconds of the game rather than kneel it. The Broncos had just tied things up, and if the Chiefs would have just taken a knee, the game would have been sent into overtime.
What happened though? Andy Reid elected to run the ball and Charles fumbled the football and the Broncos picked it up and scored the game winning touchdown.
Completely unacceptable play calling on Thursday night.
The only thing I can say is that at least Kansas City didn’t lose in a “Fail Mary” type play or how the Giants lost last Sunday night with poor clock management. They’re not the biggest losers of the bunch, but they’re definitely up there after that play. Splendid.
