2) Alex Smith can lead the team to victory
The Chiefs haven’t attempted to draft a ‘franchise’ quarterback since Todd Blackledge, and fans so desperately want one. Alex Smith came to the Chiefs by way of trade in 2013, and has been nothing short of polarizing since then. Sounds familiar, right?

Smith has constantly been criticized for his inability to make big plays, or take risks down the field. Part of that is because the Chiefs haven’t really had a big down-the-field type of receiver. They tried to make things work with Dwayne Bowe and even Jonathan Baldwin, but those didn’t pan out.
Jeremy Maclin presents a new opportunity for Smith, and we saw it on Sunday.
As I recall one of the broadcasters iterating during the game, San Francisco ‘brainwashed’ Smith, making him avoid those deep throws. Andy Reid isn’t Jim Harbaugh, though. He loves to pass the ball, and he loves to pass it deep.
Now the Chiefs have Maclin, and Smith is starting to take advantage of that opportunity.
We already know that Smith is a game manager, but now couple that will a higher willingness to throw the deep ball, and you have a pretty decent quarterback. I know the sample size is small, but if Smith has success with it on Thursday, we can expect to see it all season.
