A. . . Kansas City Chiefs. SPECIAL TEAMS

Spectacular. The best unit on the field, and the biggest difference in the game.

The KC Chiefs special teams unit kept the Texans against the ropes and dominated the field position battle from the beginning.

Punter Dustin Colquitt had the pitching wedge working yesterday, and it turned in to a exhibition.

De’Anthony Thomas was tremendous. He returned five punts for 81 yards – and a 16.2 yard average.

On separate occasions, he pinned the Texans at the seven, eight and eleven yard-lines. One of those was 56-yard bomb, too.

Four punts inside the 20. His two touchbacks were both phenomenal punts. (Shane Lechler had a good day too – we see you, legend.)

Colquitt and the Chiefs’ special teams affected field position, forced the Houston offense to execute near its own goal line and gave the defense a chance to attack.

Cairo Santos hit from 27-yards, 48-yards and missed one long one.

This is an A+ grade if Santos makes the 51-yard field he missed wide left. It was a tough kick, but it would have put the Chiefs up 21 points and it was certainly makeable.

Santos didn’t allow a kick return.

De’Anthony Thomas was tremendous. He returned five punts for 81 yards – and a 16.2 yard average. Secured the ball, got positive yards and seemed to be a split-second away from breaking one several times.

Excellent work from the Chiefs’ special teams unit.
