It wouldn’t be accurate report card if I didn’t grade the quarterback, now would it?

Joe Hubener looked much better this week. I wasn’t too nice to him last week when he had to take over after Jesse Ertz was carted off the field after just a few plays, but Hubener did well against UTSA. It was his first start since he was in high school and you could tell the nerves were prominent in the first half.

As I mentioned on the earlier slide regarding the poor play by the offense in the first half, Hubener did not look good. His throws were off and had he not been a mobile quarterback, I don’t think anyone would have blamed Bill Snyder if he had pulled him and put in Alex Delton instead.

Hubener settled in, however, and ended the day looking pretty comfortable at quarterback for KSU. His final stats were 12 of 23 for 243 yards. He snuck in for a touchdown in the second quarter and had 58 yards with his legs on 17 carries.

There was a lot to like from Bazooka Joe in this game, and let’s hope he can continue this type of play as the season progresses.
