November 20th, 2005 at Reliant Stadium (Chiefs won 45-17)
On my 15th birthday, the Kansas City Chiefs were able to seek revenge on the Texans for that late game loss two years prior. While I doubt that game was really on the Chiefs’ mind, it was nice to see them blow out Houston in a midseason game that put them at 6-4 on the year.
Trent Green and David Carr were still the quarterbacks for their respective teams, but Carr wasn’t much of a factor in this game. Green, on the other hand, fared quite well. He went 19 for 29 for 220 yards, three touchdowns, and only one interception.

The Chiefs struck first with a Lawrence Tynes field goal and then a 23 yard Larry Johnson run, both in the first quarter. Houston was able to make things a little closer when Jerome Mathis returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown.
Kansas City started to break away in the second quarter. Green hit Eddie Kennison with a 26 yard touchdown pass, Larry Johnson had a one-yard rush for a score, and Eric Warfield had a pick six. All of those led to a 31-7 lead in favor of the Chiefs.
Houston tried to be competitive in the third quarter, putting ten points on the board, but that’d be it for the Texans on the day.
Green tossed two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter (one to Kennison again and another to Samie Parker) to give the Chiefs a 45-17 victory and an advantage in the KC/Houston series. The Chiefs went 10-6 in 2005, but missed out on the playoffs.
The Texans had a lousy year in 2005, going 2-14, which ties for their worst season in their short history.
