One year later, the Kansas City Chiefs welcomed the Texans to Arrowhead Stadium for the first time. The Chiefs started the season 0-2 and were hungry for a win against Houston, who were also 0-2. One team would leave Arrowhead with a win on the board.

Kansas City struck first when Trent Green hit Tony Gonzalez with a 14 yard touchdown pass to put the Chiefs up by seven in the first quarter. The Texans had two field goals in the second quarter, and it was 7-6 Chiefs headed into half time.

Green later hit Chris Horn with a six yard touchdown in the third quarter to put the Chiefs up 14-6, but the Texans took advantage of a Green interception, as Marcus Coleman ran it back for six. 14-14 game.

Green was able to put the Chiefs on top again with a five-yard touchdown pass to Jason Dunn, but the 21-14 lead wouldn’t last. David Carr was able to tie things up again with a nine-yard pass to Jabar Gaffney in the end zone.

Kansas City didn’t trail in the game until the fourth quarter, but Houston’s defense was able to hold off the Chiefs’ offense. The Texans converted a late field goal to give Houston their first win of the season and drop Kansas City to 0-3 on the year.

Quite a different story from the year before, as the 2004 Chiefs ended the year at 7-9. Houston finished 7-9 as well.
