7. player. 7. . Catcher. Omaha Stormchasers (AAA). Francisco Pena

Francisco Pena could see a call up because it’s just Salvador Perez and Drew Butera at the catcher position for the KC Royals. Pena isn’t great at the plate, but he’s decent on defense and provides insurance at the position.

He has an excellent chance of being on the Royals’ roster for September call-ups.

Pena appeared in one game for the Royals this season with one plate appearance. He had the same stats for 2014 as well, so while the starting experience isn’t there, he wouldn’t be used as a starter unless something happens to Perez and Butera (knock on wood).

If Pena does get a September call up, it’s unlikely that he’ll see a lot of playing time. He’d simply be called up in case Perez got injured and Butera had to fill in as the starting catcher.

Still though, Pena has spent time in the majors and is already on the 40-man roster. He has a great chance at being on the Royals’ roster for September call-ups.
