The Royals acquired Joba Chamberlain in August, and he’s currently pitching with the Omaha Stormchasers. He’s only pitched in five games and hasn’t looked the best, but he’s an experienced pitcher in the majors, and that could bode well for him come September.
Chamberlain isn’t going to be used in high-pressure situations for the Royals, but he could be useful on days when the bullpen’s best arms need rest or when the game is a blowout.
Chamberlain has an 11.25 ERA and has gone 1-0 during his brief time in Omaha. He is not currently on the 40-man roster for Kansas City.
In the past, Chamberlain has seen time in the majors with the Detroit Tigers, where he was at the beginning of the 2015 season. Chamberlain played in 30 games with the Tigers, and at one point posted a 1.26 ERA. He declined quickly after, though, and by the time he was released from Detroit had a 4.09 ERA.
