Ladarius Green is worth drafting mainly because the Chargers’ main starting tight end, Antonio Gates, will be suspended to begin the season. With Gates out, Green’s stock will certainly soar, as he’ll be the leading tight end catching passes from Philip Rivers.

Green only had 226 yards last season in four starts and didn’t record a touchdown. His fantasy value was slim to nothing, but with Gates out for a few games, expect Green to get a few more targets from his quarterback.

Green is a big target down the field, but his struggles last season are something to keep in mind. Just because he’s a projected starter while Gates is out doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play like one.

If Green can fill in for Gates’ admirably, however, you could be finding yourself actually starting Green each week. He does have Rivers throwing to him after all, and Rivers is easily one of the top ten quarterbacks in the league.

Once Gates returns to the offense, however, Green won’t be worth much. He’s worth keeping around in case of an injury or should he perform well during Gates’ absence, but keep him on your roster during the suspension at the beginning of the year. He might be able to get you some big numbers during those weeks.
