The Chicago Bears are fortunate to have Matt Forte as their starting running back, but all stud running backs need backups, right? That’s where Jeremy Langford comes in.

Langford is a rookie out of Michigan State, who as of now is considered the third back in the Bears’ system. Should Forte sustain an injury, however, I would think Chicago would lean on Langford rather than Jacquizz Rodgers (the current slated backup).

Drafting a rookie is always risky because you just never know how the guy will play. Drafting a rookie who isn’t even a projected starter is especially risky. Langford has the potential to move up to the backup spot, but you just never know.

I would advise one to only draft Langford if you draft Forte as well. This is known as the old “handcuffing” schpeel, where you take a guy’s backup in case something happens to your starting guy. Langford should be a prime example of this. He likely won’t see much action unless some type of injury occurs to Forte.
