5. Perry Ellis
Perry Ellis is always a familiar face for Kansas fans. Born and raised in Wichita, Ellis was a McDonald’s All-American being the 32nd ranked recruit on 247sports.com and was one of the Jayhawks biggest home state commits in years. He has three seasons on his belt at KU and is in store for his fourth.
Ellis played in 37 games his freshman year only putting up 5 points a game as well as 4 rebounds. He was more of a role player playing off the bench and really started to pick up the pace once his sophomore year came around.
His sophomore season is when Ellis really showed he was going to be the leader of the team come his junior season.
That season KU had Embiid and Ellis running the paint as a well-polished duo. He earned third team All-Big 12 honors that season. Ellis’ junior season was by far his best as of yet coming in as the teams leader. He helped lead the team to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament before losing to state rival Wichita State.
He was given first team Big 12 honors as well as an AP All-American honorable mention. Perry’s senior season is one to look forward to as he looks to thrash the Big 12 once again.
