Philip Rivers is simply a gun-slinger. He loves to throw the ball all over the field with his fiery and exciting style of play, and it has normally been good for him when it comes to the fantasy side of things.
I consider him a starting caliber QB heading into fantasy drafts this year in all standard leagues and think he should be drafted with the expectations of improvement on Rivers’ numbers from last season.
Last year he threw for over 4,000 yards even though one of his top targets, second year receiver Keenan Allen had a definite sophomore slump after being one of the best rookies in the league the year before. Allen was injured most of the year and attempted to play through it, but his explosiveness was simply just not there.
This season Philip Rivers and the rest of the AFC West matchup with the NFC North, which has some pretty weak defenses and obviously also have two matchups with the Oakland Raiders to help things out. I see Rivers’ schedule playing a big part in his success this season.
