Matt Ryan is right in the middle of the pack when it comes to starting caliber fantasy quarterbacks in my opinion. He definitely has talent around him, headlined by wide outs Roddy White and Julio Jones.

Ryan is a solid NFL quarterback, but I wouldn’t put him in the elite category quite yet. His Falcons struggled mightily last year mostly due to the fact that their defense was pretty bad and their running game was almost non-existent.

He is a starting caliber fantasy QB in 10-team plus leagues, and should be drafted somewhere in the middle rounds.

Without much of a running game with the aging Steven Jackson holding the starting job, Ryan was forced to put the ball in the air a lot when coming back from behind because of their porous defense.

Ryan threw for over 4,600 yards last year and put up plenty of touchdowns through the air, but does lack the ability to get out of the pocket for the most part, which does have some downside on the fantasy side of things.

I see Ryan being able to have a very successful season if both White and Jones can stay healthy, which has been a problem over the past few seasons for both guys.

He is a starting caliber fantasy QB in 10-team plus leagues, and should be drafted somewhere in the middle rounds.

Don’t underestimate his potential, but I wouldn’t reach for him by any stretch of the imagination.
