Fantasy Football Defenses Number 8: New York Jets

Lots of turnover for the New York Jets defense this season, and it needed it.

New Head Coach Todd Bowles will bring his aggressive defensive philosophy to the Big Apple, and he inherits a pretty solid core of defensive players to work with.

The biggest change for the Jets was in the secondary. They signed cornerbacks Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine.

That’s a formidable group of cornerbacks, especially important for a defense that intercepted just six passes last season, tied for the worst in the league.

That’s huge for the Jets, as they could already get to the quarterback. They posted 45 sacks last season, good for seventh-highest in the NFL, and they return most of their front seven.

The strength of the defense is the front seven and, if it can stay healthy, it gives the Jets some serious staying power as a fantasy football defense.

Defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson and defensive tackle Damon Harrison are three all stout defensive lineman.

The group added former USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, and he projects as a guy who can plug-and-play immediately.

Only problem is, Richardson is already suspended four games and was just charged in a separate incident with resisting arrest after street racing at 140-ish miles per hour. He’s a big question mark moving forward, and that doesn’t help the Jets’ fantasy value.

Between Todd Bowles’ aggressive philosophy, the deep, talented defensive line, and the made-over secondary, the Jets appear to be a dangerous defense with big-play ability.
