Royals Rumors: Should Royals Continue To Add Pitching

Yovani Gallardo and the Royals haven’t necessarily been linked together a whole lot, but the current Texas Ranger is still an option out there in free agency.

With a 3.39 ERA and a 7-9 record in 22 starts, Gallardo has turned heads during his first season in Texas. Once a starter for the Brewers, Gallardo has been good enough this season for the Rangers to consider moving him. Now that they’ve acquired Cole Hamels from the Phillies, the loss might not be huge for the Rangers.
Gallardo would be an interesting addition to the rotation due to the variety of pitches that he throws and the fact that he’s an innings eater. My co-editor Alec Tilson wrote up a post on Gallardo and mentioned this about his innings pitched,
"Gallardo could provide the Royals with a workhorse. Here are his innings-pitched from the last five seasons (in order, 2010-2014): 185, 207.1, 204, 180.2, 192.1. Not too shabby."
Just the type of guy the Royals could use down the stretch, as this bullpen has been pitching a lot to make up for some of the struggles (and injuries) that have frequently occurred from the rotation throughout the season.
GOOD TIMES: TEN BEST ROYALS GAMES SO FAR THIS SEASON
An innings eater plus a decent ERA could equal a look from the Royals. I would be okay with adding Gallardo depending on what the cost would be. The Royals have already surrendered five minor league pitchers for Cueto and Zobrist, and Gallardo would be a free agent after this season.
