(2) 1980 KC Royals vs. (6) 1993 KC Chiefs
The final Royals/Chiefs match-up could be the closest.
It’s a battle of two teams that were good enough to be champions but fell just short.
The ’80 KC Royals finally broke through and made it to their first World Series, only to fall to the Phillies, 4-2.
The ’93 Chiefs, led by Joe Montana, were oh so close, falling in the AFC Championship game at Buffalo.
It was a great season (and the last that saw a Chiefs’ playoff victory), but so was 1980 for the Royals, despite the fact many thought they were the favorites to win it all.
