When Ford was drafted in 2014, fans were kind of up in the air about it. The Chiefs were in dire need of a receiver, and guys like Marquis Lee were still on the board. The Chiefs instead opted for the 6’2″, 252 lb. defensive end out of Auburn. Speculation began that Ford would be Tamba Hali‘s replacement, but Hali is still on the roster.

We saw limited action from Ford in 2014, as he developed into a third down type of player. While he wasn’t Hali’s replacement, he eventually became his backup, allowing Hali to take some needed rest during games. While Ford didn’t start any games last year, he played in all 16, indicating that the Chiefs truly think he can make an impact on defense.
The roster is stacked with linebackers this year, so every player will need to step up during training camp to earn a spot on the final version of it. Ford has the potential to become a big pass rushing linebacker, but only if the Chiefs want to focus on making him one.
