Week 2: Thursday, September 17th, 2015 VS Denver Broncos (Thursday Night Football, 7:25 CST)
The Kansas City Chiefs’ first home game of 2015 will be in front of the entire nation, as they’ll kick off the first game of NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football for this season. This will be the first Thursday Night Football the Chiefs have hosted since it became a weekly thing back in 2012.
While it sucks that the Chiefs will have a short week in just their second game of the season, it bodes well for them that the Denver Broncos will be the ones coming to town. It’ll be the first home game against a hated division rival. It’ll be loud as hell at Arrowhead Stadium, and likely Peyton Manning‘s last game there.
You know what would be cool?
If the Chiefs could FINALLY knock Manning off, something they haven’t been able to do since he joined the AFC West in 2012. In fact, Kansas City has only beat Manning once since he started playing in the NFL in 1998, and that was back in 2004.

Denver, however, is going downhill. They even reportedly attempted to trade Manning to the Texans during the off season, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. They also lost offensive guard Orlando Franklin, tight end Julius Thomas, and likely wide receiver Wes Welker, who is still on the free agent market. About the only decent thing they really did was lock star receiver Demaryius Thomas up to a lengthy contract.
Kansas City came close to defeating the Broncos last season in the second week of the season, and I think we’ll see a repeat of that game this time around. A hard fought game between two good division teams, and I originally had this jotted down as a win for the Chiefs.
What changed my mind, however, was the news of losing Sean Smith for three weeks (so for this game). Smith is the only true veteran cornerback on the roster and instead, the Chiefs will likely be throwing Phillip Gaines and rookie Marcus Peters out into the action. I’m sure Manning will be licking his chops at that opportunity.
Without a true veteran cornerback, Manning will have a field day in the passing game, and it’ll be tough for the Chiefs to keep the pace with scoring.
Prediction: Man this blows. I was SO confident about the Chiefs pulling out a win against the Donkeys this season, but despite the momentum being on Kansas City’s side what with the crowd noise and all, they’ll fall to Denver 28-14.
Next: Long week to prepare
