KC Royals News: Trade Rumors and Jason Vargas Surgery
By Joel Wagler
The Kansas City Royals news seems filled with rumors about their possible interest in a number of players.
There is no lack of interesting topics for discussion concerning the Kansas City Royals of late.
Not only are Royals rumors prevalent, but the team received some very bad news as well. Jason Vargas will require Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of this year, and possibly all of 2016. Vargas’ injury may force the Royals to make a trade for another starter, whether they want to or not.
The team will need to find someone to fill his spot in the rotation. For now, recently exiled Yordano Ventura will rejoin the team.
In the past few days, there have been rumors about the Royals looking at pitchers and outfielders. A new rumor emerged about them considering Yoenis Cespedes from the Detroit Tigers.
If the Tigers decide to throw in the towel, and if Dayton Moore could acquire Cespedes, that would be exciting for the stretch run and the playoffs.
There hasn’t been much buzz about Martin Prado being a trade target, but the versatile veteran seems like would be a good fit for the Royals for the last few months of the season. He is the type of player that Moore seems to like.
Johnny Cueto has been rumored to be a Royals’ target for a while now, but Yovani Gallardo has emerged as a possibility as well. While Cueto’s health may be in question, Gallardo might be a cheaper alternative for the stretch run.
Sometimes the Kansas City Royals’ approach at the plate can be frustrating. There aren’t many pitches these guys won’t hack at, but while they don’t walk much, they do make contact.
When your Batting Average on Balls in Play is above average, and as a team, they put the ball in play a lot, good things will happen. Maybe it isn’t all smoke and mirrors.
There is a chance the Royals have a replacement for Jason Vargas for next year. That guy could be the nearly forgotten prospect John Lamb. He is getting plenty of experience pitching at AAA this season.

Jason Vargas Will Need Tommy John Surgery [Kings of Kauffman – David Hill]
"Now, as the results of Vargas’ MRI have come back, the Kansas City Royals worst fears have been confirmed, as he tore his ulnar collateral ligament, and will likely be out of action until 2017."
Martin Prado an Ideal Trade Target [KC Kingdom – Alec Tilson]
"He’s a contact-hitting veteran who can play third base and second base (he also played in left field and right field for the New York Yankees last season, but the Royals won’t be needing him in the outfield.)"
Royals Rumored to be After Yoenis Cespedes [Kings of Kauffman – John Viril]
"Yoenis Cespedes would be a significant upgrade for the KC Royals lineup. He’s hitting .289/.315/488 with 27 doubles, 14 home runs, and 54 RBI’s. He’s a middle of the order bat that can fill in for Alex Gordon in left over the next two months—and, perhaps, take over in left for Alex Rios during the stretch run and the playoffs."
