(3) 1977 KC Royals vs. (6) 1990-91 Kansas Basketball
1977 was one great season for the KC Royals. It still remains the only time the team has won 100 games, and they came within six outs of beating the Yankees in the ALCS.
Alas, it didn’t work out, but this was still one of the best KC teams and most memorable seasons in Royals history.
The ’90-’91 Kansas basketball season was similar to the ’77 Royals in that it finished just short of a championship.
Roy Williams was denied a title at Kansas by Duke, who, although not a the time, has become the Yankees of college basketball. It was memorable enough to knock off an ’03 Kansas State Football team in the first round that won the Big 12 Championship game.
But is that enough to knock off the best Royals regular season in team history?
