(2) 2013 Sporting KC vs. (7) 1998 Kansas State Football
Kansas State Wildcats
This one could favor SKC just because of recent memory.
Kansas City is still riding high from Sporting Fever and the team’s championship from two years ago.
While that was an amazing season, the ’98 Kansas State football one was as well. If not for a stunning, I repeat stunning, double over time loss in the Big 12 Championship game, the Wildcats could have won the national championship that season.
Instead, it finished 11-2 (after starting 11-0) and always will be remembered as the team that almost accomplished it all.
Sporting’s first and only MLS Cup meant a lot to the city, and the memories from the 11-0 start will never be forgotten for Wildcats fans.
Which is worthy of a trip to the Sweet 16?
