(4) 1995 Kansas State Football vs. (5) 1976 KC Royals
The fourth-seeded Kansas State Wildcats football team in 1995 was able to take down the ’82-’83 Missouri basketball team in the first round, and now will face a tougher task as they square off against the city’s beloved Royals.
The ’95 Wildcats had a 10-win season, their first time doing so in 85 years, and also won their third Bowl game in a row. Their opponent in the round of 32 will be the ’76 Royals, who also beat a Missouri Tigers team (’65 MU football) in the first round (in fact, no Mizzou teams advanced out of the first round).
The ’76 Royals lost in the ALCS to those pesky New York Yankees, but it was yet another successful season for the boys in blue. When the franchise began, it only took three seasons for the Royals to finish with a record over .500.
Obviously we know they struggled to meet that mark throughout the 90’s and 2000’s, but these ’76 Royals were special.
Will they be special enough to knock off the K-State football squad from 1995?
