Lesser Known Outfielders Who Might Help the Royals

I know, I know. Will Venable‘s not the Justin Upton, Wil Myers, or Matt Kemp name you were looking for. That said, he’d also be a pretty perfect fit for the Royals. In fact, there may be a decent debate on who would be a better fit between Parra and Venable.

Venable is a solid athletic outfielder, who features speed on the base paths. He has a decent (left-handed) bat, and hovers right around double-digit homer run power. He’s only under contract through this season, and is generally listed as the fourth or fifth outfielder in San Diego.

Something has to give in L.A.

He’d be a great fit for the Royals because he has historically smashed left-handed pitching, and that is something the Royals have struggled with.

Unlike most of the candidates I’ve listed, Scott Van Slyke plays for a very competitive team, however, the outfield situation in LA. is hemorrhaging, and has been for a while. With Carl Crawford set to return from the DL after the All-Star break, the Dodgers also have Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig, Andre Ethier, and Alex Guerrero on the roster.

Van Slyke is a big, strong right-handed bat that can play the corner outfield spots, and also first base. He’d be a great fit for the Royals because he has historically smashed left-handed pitching, and that is something the Royals have struggled with.

Dodgers and Royals matching up on a trade would be somewhat odd, considering they both lead their respective divisions, but in terms of personnel, they are a great fit in that the Royals need a bat like Van Slyke, and the Dodgers could definitely use bullpen help.
