(6) 1921-22 Kansas Basketball vs. (11) 1991 Kansas State Football
If you actually remember the 1921-22 Kansas basketball squad, congrats you are over 100 and internet savvy.
Even though most everyone does not, Jayhawk fans are still aware that KU won the first of back-to-back Helms National Championships — one that was awarded without a postseason tournament.
In Phog Allen’s fourth season as head coach, KU went 16-2 including 15-1 in conference play.
The ’91 K-State football team is a little easier for people to remember, and for Wildcats fans it was a pretty good one.
Again, on the national scene it wasn’t a huge deal. K-State went 7-4 and failed to play in a bowl game. However, it was anything but insignificant in Manhattan.
It was Snyder’s first winning season — and third overall — as well as the team’s best record since 1954. So yeah, a pretty successful year.
