Manager Whitey Herzog had turned his Royals team in to the cream of the crop in the AL West. It was the third straight year Kansas City (92-70) claimed the AL West despite playing in only their 10th season.

It however also marked the third straight year the New York Yankees knocked the Royals out of the playoffs, this time 3-1.

At the age of 31, Amos Otis, who did so often, led the team in batting average (.298), home runs (22) and RBI (96).

The causal fan doesn’t know much about the 1920-21 Mizzou basketball season, but it ended with the Tigers sporting a 17-1 record and the Premo-Poretta National Championship.

The honor was bestowed retroactively after the end of the season to a team deserving of “champion.” This existed prior to any postseason tournament or polls. The Tigers were led by first year coach Craig Ruby.
