(4) 1995-96 Kansas Basketball vs. (13) 1995 KC Chiefs
1995 was a season that ended in early disappointment for both the Jayhawks and Chiefs — more so for the Chiefs.
Despite winning 13 games for the first time in franchise history, the Chiefs lost 10-7 to the Indianapolis Colts in a home divisional playoff game.
It is known as the “Lin Elliott Game,” and is still a point of contention for KC fans. Elliott, who nailed 81.7 percent of his field goals during the past two seasons, missed from 35, 39 and 42 yards out in the three-point loss.
They were his ninth misses in five games and he was cut after the season. Believe it or not, he was signed by the Chiefs prior to the 2008 season, but was cut prior to Week 1.
The Jayhawks, who featured freshman Paul Pierce, sophomore Raef LaFrentz and junior Jacque Vaughn, finished the regular season 26-4 and earned a two seed in the NCAA Tournament. After coasting in their first two games, and edging No. 3 seed Arizona 83-80 in the Sweet 16, they fell 60-57 at the hands of John Wallace and Syracuse in the Elite 8.
