Phog Allen was at it again, winning his second straight Helms National Title with a 17-1 overall record and 16-0 conference mark.

The Jayhawks featured Lawrence native Paul Endacott, who was named an All-American for the second straight season as well as the National Player of the Year.

1994 was another strike year that saw the Royals find odd success. Kansas City finished 64-51 in a season that had the playoffs canceled because of the strike.

KC was actually in third place, four games behind Cleveland, but had won 14 games in a row just prior to the streak. The Royals featured Rookie of the Year winner Bob Hamelin and Cy Young winner David Cone, along with aces Kevin Appier and Tom Gordon.

The strike came at the worst time for the Royals, as they finished under .500 18 of the next 19 seasons before reaching the World Series last year.
