It might not be the true Border War, but it will have to work for now.
The Jayhawks actually advanced further, losing to Maryland in the Final Four while the Tigers dropped an Elite 8 match-up to Arizona. But for Missouri, who went in as a No. 1 seed, it was one of the better seasons in school history.
The Tigers racked up 28 wins and was 14-0 in Big 12 play. They would finish fifth in the final rankings.
KU’s season may have been amazing for some programs, but it was just one of 14 Final Fours for the Jayhawks.
It actually ended in a disappointment as many thought No. 1 seed Kansas was the favorite to win it all. Instead, Kirk Hinrich, Drew Gooden, Nick Collison, Wayne Simien and Co. finished the season 33-4 and just short of a title.
