Royals at Cubs: May 29th at Wrigley Field (Royals won 8-4)
The Kansas City Royals traveled to Wrigley Field in late May, and listening to the game on the radio, you would have thought that all of the Royals fans traveled there too. Seriously. It was Royal mania at Wrigley.
The Royals kicked things off with a bang when on the very first pitch of the game from Jake Arrieta, Alcides Escobar slammed a solo shot out of the park and the crowd went bezerk. My dad and brother made the trip to Chicago for this game and my brother got a video of the crowd chanting “Let’s go Royals” at Wrigley after the Escobar home run. How cool is that?
The Royals were able to bring home a big victory against the Cubs in what felt like a home crowd environment.
Alex Gordon also went on to homer (as did Salvador Perez) , but the Cubs tied things up in the seventh inning when Kelvin Herrera gave up his first home run in over a year. Fortunately for the Royals, Dexter Fowler made a costly error in the outfield that allowed the Royals to take an 8-4 lead and never look back.
This game might not have been that memorable to other Royals fans, but I thought it was cool that so many Royals fans made the trip to Chicago. The Royals were able to bring home a big victory against the Cubs in what felt like a home crowd environment.
The Royals and Cubs ended this series with a split at one game a piece, but one game will be made up on September 28th at Wrigley Field. I am pretty sure that my dad and I will be attending that game, and it’ll be cool to see my favorite baseball team play at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Let’s hope that by that point, the Royals have already clinched the AL Central and will be headed to their second straight postseason.
