KC Chiefs: Ten Worst Starters In Past Ten Years

There’s a reason Mike McGlynn was only a Kansas City Chief for one season and that reason, simply put, is that he SUCKED. McGlynn, often referred to as “McSpin” by Chiefs fans (whoever came up with that deserves a cookie), started 13 games and played in 14 total during his lone season in Kansas City.
His signing was likely due to the fact that Andy Reid drafted McGlynn back in 2008 in the fourth round of that year’s draft and felt like he could help McGlynn out. Nope.
It says something when a player bounces around the league so much early on in their careers. Usually it means the guy doesn’t play very good football. McGlynn is a prime example of that. He spent two seasons with the Eagles before moving on to the Bengals for a season, the Colts for two, and then the Chiefs for one.
The Chiefs were desperate along the offensive line and that’s what brought McGlynn to town. Honestly, the team probably would have been better off just not having a left guard, as Alex Smith was sacked 45 times in 2014. No, not all of those were McGlynn’s fault, but it looked like it was his fault a good chunk of the time.

McGlynn was so bad that eventually Reid elected to bench him and put Jeff Linkenbach as the starting left guard. The main memory most have of Linkenbach was during a Monday Night Game in 2010 against the Colts and Chargers when Linkenbach was pushed all the way back into Peyton Manning for a sack (I guess?). That’s the guy who was a better option than Mike McGlynn.
Fortunately, the Chiefs traded for Ben Grubbs this off season, which made McGlynn expendable (honestly, signing a high school player would been a better option than McGlynn). He ended up signing a deal with the Saints shortly after.
Good luck getting protection up front Drew Brees. You’re going to need it buddy.
