Kris Medlen is a name that has been eagerly floating around Kansas City for awhile now. He hasn’t pitched a game in a Kansas City Royals uniform yet, but boy when he gets called up, fans will be stoked.

Medlen, only 29 years old, started his career with the Atlanta Braves in 2009 after pitching in the minors for three years. He rotated between the starting rotation and the bullpen during that season, but eventually filled into the starting role nicely in 2012.

After having two Tommy John surgeries with the Braves and was non-tendered after the 2014 season. Dayton Moore probably thought to himself, “Hey, I’ve signed a lot of guys with recent injuries, why not sign one more?” From there, Kris Medlen became a Royal.

Medlen recently began his rehab assignment with the North Arkansas Naturals and will hopefully be called up to the big leagues after the All-Star break. It’s hard to say for sure what role Medlen will play in Kansas City, but it’s not crazy to imagine him as part of the starting rotation especially with all of the recent injuries to the starters (Link courtesy of Blair Kerkhoff of The Kansas City Star).

Whatever role Kris Medlen does play in Kansas City, it should be a big one as the boys in blue look to make another run at the World Series in 2015.
