In an off season that saw the big name veterans going to every team but the KC Royals, many seemed to think this team would regress in 2015. Yes, a season after the boys in blue made it all the way to Game 7 in the World Series, people were already doubting their potential in 2015.
Most people were doubting the Royals due to their ace pitcher James Shields departing for more money, a story that Kansas City Royals fans know all too well. No one was comforted with Shields’ departure once his replacement had officially been signed – some guy named Edinson Volquez.
A lot of people also scoffed at the signings of Kendrys Morales and Alex Rios, both of whom had had down seasons in 2014 due to injuries.
The Royals nabbed themselves a lot of arms for their already stout bullpen, and people felt it was a waste of money to continue adding bullpen arms rather than bats.
Now two months into the season and almost to the half way point, the KC Royals are (as of June 21st) 12 games over .500 and posting a three and a half game lead in the American League Central. In other words, the Royals can say they did a pretty dang good job this off season as far as free agency goes.
Let’s take a look at these free agents and how they’ve helped the Kansas City Royals up to this point of the 2015 season.
