Jason Vargas has had his rough outings as a member of the Kansas City Royals, but this year he has been the pitcher the Royals hoped he’d be when they signed him to a large contract during last year’s off season. He currently boasts a 5-2 record with a 4.10 ERA in eight starts and has been a pretty solid option on the mound for the boys in blue.
Royals fans were just starting to get a glimpse at a consistently good Jason Vargas and then an injury yet again put him on the disabled list.
The one bad start for Jason Vargas came in his second start in the season against the Minnesota Twins. Vargas went three innings and allowed five runs in that loss. The Royals went on to lose that game 8-5, but Vargas has bounced back since that one rough outing.
He went on the disabled list in early May, but looked even better when he returned. After three solid starts from Vargas, he was yet again put on the DL, which absolutely sucks. Royals fans were just starting to get a glimpse at a consistently good Jason Vargas and then an injury yet again put him on the disabled list.
Vargas’ last start saw him going six innings and not allowing a single run. Him being pulled after only 70 pitches wasn’t a good sign and now he’ll be seeing his second stint on the disabled list.
Last season it appeared that there was either a lights out Jason Vargas or a give up tons of runs in the first inning Jason Vargas. I was worried about bad Vargas surfacing again in 2015, but outside of that one bad start in Minnesota, he’s been a pretty reliable force in the rotation. After two stints on the DL in the past month, it’ll be interesting to see if Jason Vargas will still have that command on the mound when he returns in a few weeks.
