KC Chiefs: Expectations For Second Year Players

If you had told me a year ago that the KC Chiefs would have an undrafted guy starting at wide receiver, I probably would have laughed. Only because at this point last year, the Chiefs had two clear cut receivers in Dwayne Bowe and Donnie Avery.
Wilson’s main competition will be third round pick Chris Conley, who was the Chiefs’ first wide receiver taken in the draft since Junior Hemingway (seventh round, 2012).
Flash forward to a year later and both of those guys are gone. Avery was cut shortly after season’s end and Bowe was released upon the signing of Jeremy Maclin.
While Avery wasn’t what Chiefs fans were hoping he’d be, the number two spot is open as a result of his departure.
Many seem to think Albert Wilson will be the man for the number two wide receiver spot, lining up opposite Maclin.
Wilson’s main competition will be third round pick Chris Conley, who was the Chiefs’ first wide receiver taken in the draft since Junior Hemingway (seventh round, 2012).
Wilson certainly has the potential for that second spot, as he was the recipient of Alex Smith’s longest pass last year (48 yards) and became one of Smith’s favorite targets as the season went along. The trust is already there and that’s why I think Wilson would make a solid second receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs.
I also think we’ll witness Albert Wilson recording his first touchdown reception in 2015. Also maybe his second, third, and fourth touchdown reception… But we’ll just take the one for the time being.
