From 1967 to 1979, the Kansas City Chiefs had themselves a Hall of Fame kicker in Jan Stenerud. You really couldn’t expect someone else to outdo Jan the Man on this list, could you?

Like I mentioned, Stenerud is in the Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 1991, and remains as one of three kickers to be inducted to this date.

Jan Stenerud is not only the best kicker the Kansas City Chiefs have had, but you could make a strong argument that he’s one of the best kickers to ever kick in the National Football League. His Hall of Fame induction in 1991 proves just that.

During his 13 years with the Chiefs, Jan Stenerud proved he was one of the best to ever kick in the NFL. After going undrafted in 1967, Stenerud signed with Kansas City and later in his third pro season, kicked three field goals en route to the Super Bowl IV title over the heavily favored Minnesota Vikings.

That might have been the last title the Chiefs won, but Stenerud went on to have an impressive career, including 13 years with the Chiefs, four years with the Packers, and two with the Vikings to give him 19 seasons in the NFL. Below are some of the awards Stenerud piled up during his 19-year career (Awards courtesy of Wikipedia):

  • Super Bowl Champion (IV)
  • 2× AFL All-Star (1968, 1969)
  • 4× Pro Bowl selection (1970, 1971, 1975, 1984) [1]
  • 3× All-AFL selection (1967), 1968, 1969)
  • 7× All-Pro selection (1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981, 1984) [1]
  • Pro Bowl Co-MVP (1971)
  • Chiefs Hall of Fame
  • NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team
  • Packers Hall of Fame
  • Kansas City Chiefs #3 retired

It’s difficult to say a lot about kickers in the NFL, especially when they’re good and that’s a great thing for the sake of this article. Jan Stenerud is not only the best kicker the Kansas City Chiefs have had, but you could make a strong argument that he’s one of the best kickers to ever kick in the National Football League. His Hall of Fame induction in 1991 proves just that.
