KC Chiefs: Free Agent Tight Ends On The Market

The KC Chiefs have a star on the rise in Travis Kelce, the team’s third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati. Kelce missed his rookie season after sustaining an injury that put him on the injured reserve in 2013. In 2014, however, Kelce bounced back in a big way, grabbing 862 yards and five touchdowns.
While Kelce is slated for a big year in 2015, the Kansas City Chiefs desperately need a sturdy tight end alongside him. Releasing Anthony Fasano was a smart decision due to the cap issues, but now the Chiefs have Demetrius Harris, Richard Gordon, Ryan Taylor, and fifth round draft pick James O’Shaughnessy on the roster.
One of those guys will be backing up Travis Kelce in the regular season, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in those guys should something happen to Kelce (which let’s hope nothing bad happens to him obviously).
Kansas City should consider grabbing a veteran tight end in free agency, but who is available still at this point in the off season? I’ll be honest with you here, it’s slim pickins when it comes to free agent tight ends. There are really only three free agent tight ends who I feel could benefit the KC Chiefs. Let’s take a look at those three!
