Making The Case For Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez is making a strong statement as not only the best defensive catcher in the majors, but maybe the best offensive catcher as well. As Matthew LeMar for Royals Review points out, there is a fear he might get worn down from overuse, like he did last season He has been strong so far.
His numbers make him a strong candidate:
- Home Runs – 5 – 2nd on the team
- Runs Batted In – 21 – 3rd
- Batting Average – .288 – 6th
- Hits – 41 – tied for 5th
He seems to be a leader on the field and off, but his bat and glove are what make him so special. While he still walks too little (two non intentional walks all year), he continues to be a terrific cog in the Royals’ offense.
