KC Chiefs 2015 NFL Draft Wish List: Day Three
Penn State Nittany Lions tight end Jesse James (18) – Mandatory Credit: Matthew O
No I did not pick this guy based on his name, although that certainly didn’t hurt the case. I think Jesse James is an intriguing option for Kansas City because for one, the dude is a tree. At 6’7″, he’d instantly become one of Alex Smith‘s favorite targets. Second, Travis Kelce needs a buddy he can mentor.
Jesse James wouldn’t have to start games right away, but he’d certainly have a great teacher in Travis Kelce.
I was disappointed that the KC Chiefs weren’t able to come away with a stellar tight end like Maxx Williams or Clive Walford, but if Jesse James fell to the Chiefs in either the fifth or sixth round, I’d call that a success.
Not only is James tall as can be, but he also is speedy and strong. He put up 26 reps during his bench press at the Combine and ran a 12.16 in the 60-yard shuttle.
The need for tight end didn’t use to be a crucial one, but without Anthony Fasano on the roster, the Chiefs need to be looking into getting a number two tight end. Jesse James wouldn’t have to start games right away, but he’d certainly have a great teacher in Travis Kelce.
"Big, in-line tight end with room on his frame for more muscle, but he’s limited by a lack of functional athleticism and a mechanical play demeanor. James isn’t a plus receiver with great hands and he lacks the quickness to consistently free himself from man coverage, so he must become a more determined run blocker in order to have a shot at starting in the NFL. – NFL.com"
