Albert Wilson

While my “Next Slide” caption wasn’t entirely accurate, Albert Wilson is a young guy. He’ll be 23 in July and went undrafted out of Georgia State last year. Wilson actually made an impact with the Chiefs in 2014. This is a guy that the team picked up after the draft and decided he had enough potential to keep around.

Most other teams probably wouldn’t have kept him around, but most other teams have two or three reliable wide receivers. The Chiefs don’t.

Wilson played in 12 games last year, starting two of them, and racked up 16 catches for 260 yards. He was the recipient of Alex Smith’s longest throw on the year (48 yards) and all around looked like a guy who could take this offense places.

The problem is that Wilson might not be experienced enough yet for a starting role. Most other teams probably wouldn’t have kept him around, but most other teams have two or three reliable wide  receivers. The Chiefs don’t.

Now I would still elect Jason Avant to start over young Wilson, but give this kid another year or so and he could be the real deal.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
