Round 6, Pick 41

The KC Chiefs lack of depth at inside linebacker was exposed when Derrick Johnson went down for the season and James-Michael Johnson, Josh Mauga, and Joe Mays were unable to fill the void which led to the Chiefs abysmal rush defense.

Team leader has become a theme of my draft, and Zach Vigil only continues that theme. He has a high work rate which made him one of the best linebackers in college football in 2014.

His strengths are in coverage, and is a solid tackler who rarely misses a tackle if he gets his hands on someone.

It is thought that Vigil will fit best as an inside linebacker in a 4-3. Vigil’s strengths pair perfectly with Derrick Johnson who is a run thumper. Vigil would be free to make plays in space, and won’t have to deal with big offensive lineman.

Vigil is ranked as the 12th best inside linebacker, and 224th best overall prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft according to CBS Sports.
