Round 6, Pick 17
Remember the KC Chiefs don’t have a fifth round pick as of now because they traded it to the New Orleans Saints for guard Ben Grubbs. I drafted Max Garcia with the sixth round pick to provide depth on the offensive line.
The KC Chiefs lost their starting center Rodney Hudson to the AFC West division rival Oakland Raiders during free agency. Hudson was easily the best offensive lineman on a very poor KC Chiefs offensive line in 2014 so losing him was a big loss.
The KC Chiefs have Eric Kush who they selected in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and as of now it looks as though he will get the nod to start at center for the Chiefs. Andy Reid always stresses competition at every position so Max Garcia could come in and push and possibly even challenge Kush for the starting job.
Garcia will have a slight advantage over Kush because he already has chemistry with D.J. Humphries with the second round pick as they both came from Florida.
"Strong leadership traits and a positive influence in the locker room according to his coaches. Improved work ethic and practice habits. Already treats the game as a job. Durable with a strong tolerance for pain, playing through injuries. Versatile starting experience at tackle, guard and center -Courtesy of Dane Brugler of CBS Sports"
Garcia’s versatility was the final straw that made me select him because it is good to have a guy as depth that can fill in anywhere on the offensive line. I would feel comfortable with Garcia sitting on my bench ready to fill in when needed.
