Round 4, Pick 19

The KC Chiefs have a very good starting cornerback in Sean Smith, but nobody stepped up to fill the number two corner role opposite of him. Doran Grant wouldn’t come in and immediately fill that role, but he has the potential to develop into that one day.

Grant is an average pass defender with average size, average arm length, and average hands. He really excels in his ability to play run support. He is quick to read the play and react and is surprisingly good getting off of blocks. He is the type of player that won’t shy away from a tackle and instead looks to make contact.

  • He has to work on the mechanics that are important to a cornerback otherwise he will be exploited in the NFL. His hip movement is slow which will make him a liability against quick, shifty receivers.

Grant could be productive right away on special teams for the KC Chiefs, and Dave Toub would enjoy coaching up a guy that looks for contact. He could be a star on the Chiefs special teams.

According to CBS Sports he is projected as the 12th best cornerback and 89th overall prospect so with the 115th pick by the KC Chiefs he is considered a steal.
