2007-2008 Season

Oh yes, the season of immortality for the Jayhawks. This season provided me with my all-time favorite sports memory, watching “Mario’s Miracle.”

First, we’ll start with the recruiting that this season had. This season saw shooting guard Chase Buford, center Cole Aldrich, point guard Tyrel Reed, and shooting forward Connor Teahan being brought into a KU team primed for another deep run in the NCAA tournament.

The three-point-shot that Mario Chalmers hit at the end of regulation in the championship game is a moment that none of us Jayhawk fans will ever forget.

In the preseason, the AP Poll ranked KU as the fourth best team in the nation.

This team was red-hot from the start. KU won the first 20 games of the season before losing a really tough game at Bramlage to a Michael Beasley-led Kansas State team.

After the Jayhawks lost to Oklahoma State around the end of the regular season, the Jayhawks would literally not lose another game for the rest of the season. KU would finish with a 13-3 record in conference play.

While the Jayhawks did win their fourth straight Big 12 regular season championship, they had to share this year’s championship with Texas (unfortunately).

Once again, the Jayhawks showed that they were the premiere team in the Big 12, winning the tournament for the second season in a row.

As we all know, the Jayhawks would march through the NCAA tournament with the title in their sights. The three-point-shot that Mario Chalmers hit at the end of regulation in the championship game is a moment that none of us Jayhawk fans will ever forget.

With the NCAA Championship in Lawrence, the Jayhawks ended the season with a 37-3 record.
